A Layout, Around Here + a Fun Share!

Around here lately:

  • Zoey's on day two of being home from school sick, after taking her in to the doctor yesterday we've determined (and are treating her for) that she's got a sinus infection and pink eye. A part of me has been really enjoying having my little buddy home with me again these past two days (is that terrible of me to say)? It just seems that since school started she's been on this roller-coaster ride and all of us have been thrown off kilter in the process and time has quite simply flown. We've been having some quiet, crafty time together here at home the past few days, we've had fun re-arranging her bedroom and making some fun little changes, we've had time to cuddle and read stories and we've even baked some special treats (turtle bars...yum!).

  • Speaking of reading; I just finished up reading Uncle Wiggly's Storybook by Howard Garis (an old favorite of mine from when I was little) to Zoey, I'd read her a chapter a night before bed, and she absolutely loved it. If you are familiar at all with how the chapters end in Uncle Wiggly Stories then you know the silliness that's involved...the endings always make Zoey laugh out loud. After finishing up that I started right into reading her my old copy of The House on Pooh Corner. This book is just delightful and I have to say that Pooh bear is simply a genius! Every single chapter there is something that Pooh says, or sings, or shares that makes my heart just smile and even sometimes giggle out loud. I need to start thinking like Winnie-the-Pooh. I'm seriously making that a goal for myself. Some favorite Winnie-the-Pooh quotes:

Always watch where you are going. Otherwise, you may step on a piece of the Forest that was left out by mistake.

Before beginning a Hunt, it is wise to ask someone what you are looking for before you begin looking for it.

Don't underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can't hear, and not bothering.

I don't see much sense in that," said Rabbit. "No," said Pooh humbly, "there isn't. But there was going to be when I began it. It's just that something happened to it along the way.

Poetry and Hums aren't things which you get, they're things which get you. And all you can do is go where they can find you.

Some people care too much, I think it's called love.

Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.

You can't stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.

  • As far as reading for myself is concerned, I recently finished up reading the book titled Love Walked In by Marisa de los Santos and was completely taken off guard. I was totally expecting it to be strictly a chick lit book and while some would argue that it is, there is something much deeper within and that I took away from it. A very good book, one that I held off reading the last few chapters for a couple days just because I didn't want it to be over and done with. Now that I've finished this one up I've started in on reading The Ten Year Nap by Meg Wolitzer.

  • The weather here is getting more "fall like" every day. Last night we closed up with windows for the first time at night (I'm an open window kind of girl so this was kind of hard). One thing though, I'm enjoying pulling out my sweaters, cuddling up in quilts that my grandma made on the couch and snuggling with Zoey.

Regarding my fun share, I was checking my email yesterday and was thrilled to find a couple of emails in my almost full in-box that were of surprise. I discovered that I got a layout picked up for publication in one of the upcoming issues of Creating Keepsakes Magazine and I was informed that one of my projects using the SLICE die-cut machine by Making Memories will be featured on the Making Memories website in October! Super cool and exciting news! The layout that will be pubbed in CK is one of my favorites too, love it when that happens!

For the layout above (yes, those photos are of me, I think I was about three years old at the time) I kept things pretty simple using little bits and pieces of things around my art desk. I've been wanting to use that scrap of cotton lace on a page for awhile now, glad I finally got around to it.

Supplies: Bazzill cardstock, Cosmo Cricket pp, Basic Grey pp + chipboard (&), October Afternoon pp, American Crafts chipboard (cherries), Doodlebug Designs flower, Theresa Collins transparency (ruler), Heidi Grace Designs letter stickers, 7gypsies phrase stickers, misc: cotton lace, stitching

Love the layout and the Pooh quotes. I'm going to have to get that Uncle Wiggly book for my kinder boy. I'm sure he'd love them too. Wanted to tell you I thought of you and Zoey while looking through the miniBoden catalog today. She'd be a perfect model for them. Hope she feels better soon. Congrats on the pubs too. How exciting!
